This picture invokes an emotional response I can't even describe. Joy that it exists. Awe at its content. Sadness at its age. I feel small as a person on that little blue dot but huge as a member of a race that has walked on a planet. Anger that I might never see someone return there in my lifetime.

Just, oh my.

Yes. Here is the description of the event surface:

The surface is a grass field with a gravel base. Those who raced last year will remember the interesting elevation changes that the site provides.

So hopefully the Fiesta can handle it. If it does well, I'm going to prioritize rallycross over autocross, and go to as many event as possible.

I discovered some legitimate Autocross damage today: my plastic 'skid plate' under the engine broke at a fastener. I essentially just put it back on with a bigger washer.

There's a quote, I believe it was by Gene Cernan who was the last man to walk on the moon. I'm too lazy to google the actual quote right now, but it says something to the effect of "I just want to grab every politician by the collar, take them up here, and say look at how small we are"

Another favorite is from a Russian cosmonaut in the Space Station IMAX. He says earth is beautiful from up there. There's no borders, no politics. Just the one planet.

I met and heard a presentation by Sandy Magnus, a former NASA astronaut. She commented that as she orbited the earth she was struck by how fragile it looked. The way the sun lit up the thin edge of the atmosphere at sunrise and sunset reminded her of an eggshell and gave her a greater appreciation of taking care of the planet.

My point is the perspective of earth from space is remarkable, and astronauts who have seen it firsthand can provide us with incredible context for life. It's why I'm a very strong proponent of funding the space program, because once we're up there we'll respect down here much more.

I hope one day we will leave on a far away adventure. But at this rate I might as well say ever. Because I have a feeling it will be after our life times.

I do wish we would allow companies to make claims in space. Why? Competition. That would really light the fire to get things done. They can have the untapped spoils...if they get to it first.

I'd have to go look it up. Problem is old civics compete in STC. I can get a power advantage, but they'll always be lighter.

At our local events someone runs a really well set up Sentra, it's crazy. I beat him last event though, so I might be able to compete.

Springs, swaybar, and short shifter are all on my list for next season. I need to see if I can widen the track and still be eligible for STC, then I'd add spacers too. Also hoping to switch to Hankook Ventus RS3's or equivalent next season, but we'll see what happens there. I kick myself for going cheap and getting the tires I got, though they are way better than stock. Should have spent the extra money and gone with something stickier.

The short shifter is pissing me off. There's one company that makes them, they're like $170. There's another company that makes a bunch of sonic parts, they made my intake, and they've been talking about making one forever. They brag about how cheap it'll be because it's a simple part. They made them for the older models, but the 2013 and newer have a different transmission. The older ones were released back in June, they said it'd be about 2 weeks for the newer ones. Then a month ago they said it was imminent. Then nothing. No updates in a month. ARGH

So I skimmed through the street and street touring rules.

I don't think you can change the shifter and still be in street. Unless I missed it it didn't say that explicitly, but it did say you could use any shifter in street touring which implies that you can't in street.

You can't lower your car in street, you can in street touring. You can't remove catalytic converters in street, you can in street touring. You can't tune the ECU in street, you can in street touring.

Those are the big ones to me. Basically street has to be stock, street touring can be stock with typical modifications.
